Preface

This year’s issue of SIMPLY contains three articles. The first is an extensive external contribution by the DNV-lawyers Dag Ove Solsvik and Francesca Badocco on an important topic which thus far has received little academic attention, namely the legal implications of the EU Regulation (391/2009) which obliges, with some reservations, classification societies to recognize each other’s decisions on approval and certification of certain classification items.

Then follows an article by Olga Pozdnakova providing important overview on the international law aspects of geoengineering, that is, efforts on a global or regional level to ‘engineer’ countering of undesired climate change.

Finally, there is an article by Thor Falkanger giving account and legal analysis of a recent Norwegian Court of Appeal case on shipbroking, involving questions of damages for deficient brokerage services.

We thank the authors for valuable contributions and wish our readers happy reading.
